The Seton Hill University 2015-16 women's basketball team, coached by
Mark Katarski continues to receive honors off the court. The team placed third in Division II in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll. A few weeks ago the team was awarded the PSAC Top Team GPA Award for the third straight season.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 annually recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III; NAIA; and junior/community college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined grade point average (GPA) inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2015-16 season is the 21st in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls. Seton Hill's team finished the season with an overall GPA of 3.711. The GPA was the fourth highest of all NCAA institutions including Division I, II and III teams.
The 3.711 GPA is the highest team GPA for a Griffin women's basketball team since Seton Hill joined the NCAA in 2006-07. It is the eighth time Seton Hill has been in the Top 25 in the past nine seasons and it is the highest ranking for a PSAC member school since 2001-02. The 2012-13 team coached by
Ferne Labati had a 3.646 GPA and finished second in the country. Seton Hill is the second program Katarski has led to the WBCA Academic Top 25. His first team at Chatham earned the honor at the Division III level.
"Our players have fully earned this incredible accomplishment as a result of their dedication in the classroom," head coach
Mark Katarski said. "Equally deserving of recognition are the faculty, staff, and administration of Seton Hill University for creating and inspiring a culture of academic excellence."
